To help administrative tribunals comply with
Manitoba’s privacy laws – The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) – Manitoba Ombudsman has developed Privacy
Guidelines for Administrative Tribunals on the Online Publication of
Decisions.

Manitoba Ombudsman initiates review of Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
privacy breach under PHIA – Mar 17, 2015
Earlier today, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) held a press
conference to advise the public about a privacy breach involving the inappropriate access by
a former WRHA employee to the health information of at least 56 people. Our office was made
aware of this breach on March 6, when the WRHA was in the preliminary stages of its
investigation.

Manitoba Ombudsman releases FIPPA report with recommendation related to access
to city records about police headquarters – Mar 11,
2015
Manitoba Ombudsman has posted its report with a
recommendation regarding the City of Winnipeg’s response to an application made under The
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). The application was for
information about renovations to the Public Safety Building and Canada Post building. The
ombudsman’s report includes the City of Winnipeg’s response to the recommendation.

Manitoba Ombudsman joins other privacy commissioners in expressing concerns
about the implications of Bill C-51 – Mar 6,
2015
Today, provincial and territorial privacy oversight
officers have jointly released a letter to the chair of the Standing Committee on Public
Safety and National Security expressing concerns about the privacy implications of Bill C-51
(the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2015). This is in addition to a letter of concern released by
federal Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien.

Manitoba Ombudsman makes first referral to information and privacy
adjudicator – Mar 3, 2015
For the first time, Acting Manitoba Ombudsman Mel Holley has referred a
matter under The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) to Manitoba Information and Privacy
Adjudicator Ron Perozzo for additional review after a trustee did not comply with the
ombudsman’s recommendations.
