• Ombudsman releases 2000 Access and Privacy Annual Report – Apr 24, 2002
  Experiences in 2000 suggest a need for improvement in compliance with both the letter and spirit of the access and privacy legislation. In 2000, the Office of the Manitoba Ombudsman opened and closed a record number of access and privacy related complaints under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), and The Ombudsman Act.
  
• Ombudsman issues conclusions in investigation of breach of privacy allegations concerning the Health Sciences Centre – Nov 27, 2001
  The Manitoba Ombudsman's Office has completed an investigation into several allegations of breach of personal health information privacy made by a patient of Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre (HSC), a trustee under The Personal Health Information Act.
  
• Ombudsman's 1999 Annual Report points to need for better awareness of access and privacy rights and obligations – Apr 18, 2001
  Today, Manitoba Ombudsman Barry Tuckett raised a number of concerns in releasing his 1999 annual report on access and privacy matters under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
  
• Ombudsman releases Annual Report – Feb 21, 2001
  Manitoba Ombudsman Barry Tuckett today released his Annual Report which included a number of service improvements that emerged as a result of the 4403 enquiries and complaints received by his Office in 1999.
  
• Five Winnipeg chiropractors follow Ombudsman's recommendations – Jun 29, 2000
  The Manitoba Ombudsman's Office has completed an investigation into reports that certain Winnipeg chiropractors used their patients' personal health information to send a letter seeking support for a political nominee.
  
• Manitoba Division of Driver and Vehicle Licencing follows Ombudsman's office recommendations – Feb 22, 2000
  The Manitoba Ombudsman's Office has completed an investigation into security arrangements in relation to the transfer of personal information, held by the Division of Driver and Vehicle Licencing (DDVL), to Elections Canada. The Office initiated the investigation in March 1999 to determine whether the personal information had been protected in the manner required by s.41 of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). DDVL is a division of the Department of Highways and Government Services.
  
• Speaker tables the 1998 Annual Report of the Ombudsman – Dec 9, 1999
  The 1998 Annual Report of the Manitoba Ombudsman was tabled in the Legislature today. The report highlighted the significant changes that took place in the Office in 1998 as a result of the introduction of new access and privacy legislation, the opening of a regional office in Brandon, and the continuing increase in workload that has brought a 30% increase in formal complaints to the Office since 1996.
  
• Manitoba Natural Resources follows Ombudsman's office recommendations – Jul 16, 1999
  The Manitoba Ombudsman's Office has completed an investigation into the destruction of audio tape recordings of presentations made during public meetings held by the 1997 Manitoba Water Commission, a commission of Manitoba Natural Resources. Barry Tuckett, the Manitoba Ombudsman, found that this was an unauthorized destruction of records that contravened The Legislative Library Act. This Act sets out a procedure for authorizing the retention and destruction of records of government departments and agencies.
  
• Manitoba X-Ray Clinic undertakes security audit following Ombudsman's office recommendations – Apr 21, 1999
  The Manitoba Ombudsman's Office has completed an investigation into reports that patient health files were left in a dumpster behind one of the premises of the Manitoba X-Ray Clinic for disposal. Barry Tuckett, the Manitoba Ombudsman found that the Clinic failed to comply with section 17(3) of The Personal Health Information Act which requires a personal health information trustee "…ensure that personal health information is destroyed in a manner that protects the privacy of the individual the information is about."
