In a joint resolution, Canada’s federal, provincial,
and territorial information and privacy commissioners and ombudspersons are calling for a
concerted effort across the healthcare sector to modernize and strengthen privacy
protections for sharing personal health information.

In a joint resolution, Canada’s information and
privacy regulators called on their respective governments to respect Canadians’
quasi-constitutional rights to privacy and access to information. The regulators took note
of the serious impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the right of access to information
and privacy rights in Canada and called on governments to use the lessons learned during the
pandemic to improve these rights.

Manitoba Ombudsman has released a FIPPA investigation report where
recommendations were made to Manitoba Infrastructure. A report on compliance with the
recommendations is also included. FIPPA requires that the ombudsman make recommendations
made available to the public, and sets out that the ombudsman may do so by publishing
recommendations on a website.

Manitoba Ombudsman has released a report under the Personal Health
Information Act (PHIA) about an investigation into a privacy breach that affected 8,900
children receiving services from the Children’s disAbility Services (CDS) program of
Manitoba Families.

Ombudsman releases report on privacy implications of Manitoba Liquor and
Lotteries’ Controlled Entrance Initiative – Apr 7,

Manitoba Ombudsman has released a summary report on a
review of the privacy implications of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries’ Controlled Entrance
Initiative at Liquor Mart stores. In November 2019 Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries implemented
the initiative to improve safety and security in response to thefts.
