• Manitoba Ombudsman releases Guidelines for Implementing a Privacy Management Program – Jul 13, 2017
  Manitoba Ombudsman has released new privacy-related guidelines for public bodies and trustees (organizations) subject to FIPPA and PHIA – Guidelines for Implementing a Privacy Management Program for Privacy Accountability in Manitoba’s Public Sector.
  
• Manitoba Ombudsman releases comments and recommendations in response to FIPPA and PHIA reviews – Jun 27, 2017
  Manitoba Ombudsman has posted its comments and recommendations in response to the Manitoba government’s legislative reviews of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) on its website.
  
• Ombudsman releases FIPPA investigation report with recommendation related to access to information about photo radar enforcement – Jun 19, 2017
  Manitoba Ombudsman has released its investigation report with a recommendation regarding the City of Winnipeg – Winnipeg Police Service’s response to an application made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). The application was for information about photo radar enforcement locations. The ombudsman’s report includes the City of Winnipeg’s response to the recommendation.
  
• Manitoba Ombudsman releases 2016 annual report – May 30, 2017
  Manitoba Ombudsman Charlene Paquin has released her office’s annual report for 2016. The report highlights the work and accomplishments of the office under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Personal Health Information Act, the Ombudsman Act and the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.
  
• Ombudsman reviews privacy breach – Apr 19, 2017
  As many Manitobans are now aware, a confidential list of individuals who have undergone MRI procedures was recently disclosed to the media and some of this information was publicly released. On April 17, 2017, Manitoba Ombudsman was first advised of this privacy breach, and shortly thereafter, was made aware that the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) would be conducting an internal review. Manitoba Ombudsman has also initiated an investigation of this matter under the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).

  Manitoba Ombudsman has released Ten Tips for Addressing Employee Snooping, a guidance document for public bodies and trustees subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
  
• Manitoba Ombudsman releases survey report on privacy breach practices in Manitoba – Dec 20, 2016
  Manitoba Ombudsman has released Privacy Breach Practices in Manitoba, a report that summarizes findings and analysis from a survey distributed to 238 public-sector organizations across the province.
  
• Don’t repeat past mistakes, Privacy Commissioner warns as government reviews national security framework – Dec 6, 2016
  Commissioner Therrien and his provincial and territorial counterparts are stressing the need to address privacy risks related to information sharing and collection of metadata; raising concerns about government proposals on police access to basic subscriber data and encrypted communications.

  Manitoba Ombudsman is pleased to host the 2016 Manitoba Connections: Access, Privacy, Security and Information Management Conference, on September 27-28, 2016 at the Delta Hotel in Winnipeg.
