According to an investigative report released by Manitoba Ombudsman, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT) lacked sufficient justification in its initial attempt for an untendered contract to purchase $5 million worth of flood-fighting equipment for First Nation communities in the Interlake.

Manitoba Ombudsman releases revised Privacy Impact Assessment Tool – Oct 8, 2015
Manitoba Ombudsman has developed a user friendly Privacy Impact Assessment Tool that encourages organizations to think about privacy when evaluating an existing or proposed program, service or activity. This Privacy Impact Assessment Tool replaces the Compliance Review Tool for Manitoba’s Information Privacy Laws, developed by Manitoba Ombudsman in 2003.

In recognition of national Right to Know Week, September 28 to October 2, Manitoba Ombudsman has posted six new investigation reports under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) on its website. Right to Know raises awareness of a person’s democratic right of access to government-held information and promotes the benefits of open, accessible, and transparent government.

Manitoba Ombudsman investigates administrative actions related to the procurement of flood fighting equipment – Jul 7, 2015
Manitoba Ombudsman Charlene Paquin has determined that, pursuant to section 15 of The Ombudsman Act, her office will investigate whether the processes undertaken by the Manitoba civil service, related to the funding and procurement of flood fighting equipment between July 2014 and January 2015, were consistent with relevant requirements set out in legislation and policy.
