• Privacy commissioners urge caution on expanded surveillance plan – Sep 10, 2009
  Parliament should take a cautious approach to legislative proposals to create an expanded surveillance regime that would have serious repercussions for privacy rights, say Canada’s privacy guardians. Privacy commissioners and ombudspersons from across the country issued a joint resolution today urging Parliamentarians to ensure there is a clear and demonstrable need to expand the investigative powers available to law enforcement and national security agencies to acquire digital evidence.

  The Manitoba Ombudsman has released a practical, 70-page guide to assist municipal councillors and administrators achieve fairness in the increasingly complex work they do.
  
• New fact sheet for Manitobans who are considering applying for MPI's Enhanced Identification Card – Feb 2, 2009
  In conjunction with today´s start up of Manitoba Public Insurance´s (MPI) new Enhanced Identification Card Program, the Manitoba Ombudsman has released a fact sheet for those who are considering applying for the card.
  
• Province implements Ombudsman’s recommendations to improve notice to taxpayers about proposed borrowing by-laws – Oct 24, 2008
  Manitoba Ombudsman Irene Hamilton today announced that all recommendations made in her Report, issued August 27, 2007, regarding the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain Local Improvement Plan have been implemented.
  
• Manitoba Ombudsman releases 2007 Annual Report under The Ombudsman Act, FIPPA, PHIA and The Public Interest Disclosure Act – Jul 28, 2008
  Manitoba Ombudsman Irene Hamilton has released her Annual Report for the calendar year 2007. This is the first reporting year on her mandate under The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act, which became law on April 2, 2007.
  
• Manitoba Ombudsman reports on the progress of implementing child welfare recommendations – Jul 24, 2008
  Today, Ombudsman Irene Hamilton, released a progress report on the implementation by the child welfare system of recommendations contained in the September 2006 report, Strengthen the Commitment: An External Review of the Child Welfare System. The report concerns the period November 2006 to March 31, 2008.
  
• Privacy advocates express concern about child privacy online – Jun 4, 2008
  As Canadian youth spend more time online, they run the risk of losing control of their personal information and, potentially, facing complications at home, school or work. Canada’s privacy commissioners and ombudspersons issued a joint resolution today expressing their commitment to work together to improve the state of online privacy for children and young people.
  
• Enhanced driver’s licences concern Canada’s privacy guardians – Feb 5, 2008
  Plans to consider or implement enhanced driver’s licences (EDL) in several Canadian provinces have prompted federal, provincial and territorial privacy guardians to express their concerns about the privacy and security risks of the EDL program.

  The Manitoba Government and the cities of Brandon and Thompson have proclaimed September 28th to October 5th Right to Know Week. Manitobans join with other Canadians this week celebrating the right of access to information held by public sector bodies and the benefits of transparent, accessible government. Today is Right to Know Day in over 60 nations.
